The Nintendo R4 DS Card Puts Brix DS On Your Nintendo DSi XL
I love writing about Nintendo R4 DS card homebrew games. I just love all the nds homebrew games and applications. I never cease to be amazed by the generosity of all of these hard working developers who have no problem letting all of us download and play their games. They don't do it for the money (it's free - remember?), and they certainy don't do it for fame or any kind of commercial gain. They do it simply for the love of making a game. And the pleasure of having thousands and thousands of Nintendo DS R4 users play and enjoy the games they create.
A new NDS homebrew game I happened to stumble on just last week is Brix DS. I love puzzled games, especially puzzle games that steer clear of your normal puzzler and offer up something unique. You know, not the mainstream - match these three colors or shapes to have the disappear type of puzzle games, but puzzle games that lend themselves to trying out something totally new and unique. Brix DS does just that, and does it with amazing graphics and gameplay to boot. Brix DS in it's third version - and Brix DS V3.0 has only gotten better. Version 3.0 adds an amazing 16 new levels, which brings the total of levels in the nds homebrew game to 73.
The puzzle part of Brix is easy to explain: make sure that the dynamite does not touch the ground or fall off the bricks while you remove each row, or level of brick below it. Beating each stage may sound simple, but it gets harder and harder as you have to take into account where the dynamite might fall if you remove certain bricks. To mix things up a bit, there are dark grey bricks that you can't get rid of, so you'll have to make sure you're taking them into account as you remove each level of the light grey bricks. You may look at this and thing "That's easy, I can balance the dynamite by removing these two bricks", but the fact of the matter is, you can't just remove the bricks one after the other, you have to wait while your player re-charges to be able ot break the next brick.
The game works and is fun because it goes from being something very easy to getting harder and harder the longer you play. You'll find yourself whipping through the first few levels, and then be pleasantly surprised that you have to try harder and harder as you move to the higher levels. This game is one of those games that you can play over and over again, and if you're lucky enough to have a Nintendo R4 DS card you can start playing it for free right away.
The biggest thing in my books that gives huge kudos to the developer of Brix DS is the way that he updates the game. In fact, several dozen new levels have been added since it's v1 release, and Nintendo R4 owners defintely want this trend to continue. And I don't think I have to point this out - but I will just to be sure - all updates for Brix DS are free, just like the game itself, so long as you have a Nintendo R4 DS Card. You won't have to pay for any updates. I have never even heard of, much less owned any commercial game that can boast that updates and new levels are free, not on the Nintendo DS or DSi anyway.
